September 25, UM Exhibit Museum, more pre-history

.

Another display I remember well from my childhood.

Any museum worth its salt keeps track of the latest research and conclusions.

I imagine we are all aware of the change in thinking about the posture of dinos who walk upright.

Re-working displays is verrrrry expensive. Another way to stay current is to talk about what has changed..........

The museum has an allosaurus skeleton, displayed in what is now believed to be the wrong posture. I thought I had taken a its pic along with the model (15" tall?) displayed at its side which shows current thinking as to proper posture. But I guess I didn't.................

Another pterosaur. About the same size as that other largish one, overhead before, but how different its head is from that one!

Another excellent model! I have no idea what I would do with this, but if they offered it to me I would take it in a heartbeat.

Look how tiny its head is, in comparison to its feet!

Speaking of its feet.............. (note electrical outlet, high on the wall, for scale)

Switching over from stuff-that-was-here-when-I-was-a-kid to new stuff....

They have done a lot of research on early whales. Whales, of course, evolved from land mammals. Along the way, from then to now, they lost their hind legs.

Early whales still had vestigial hind legs. See 'em?

Ok, enough of that new-fangled modern stuff.

Back to displays that pre-date me.

More excellent model-making. The horns! The definition of muscles! The paint jobs! Wow.

I love elephants.

Isn't it cool that the artist is getting credit?

Vastly predating elephant-sized mammals.............

I liked these displays as a kid, and still do.
