June 24

.

Blue sky out my office window. I had the window open all day on the 24th. Nice.

Fajitas for supper. With home-made yellow-tomato salsa and home-made guacamole. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Bark.

They say you shouldn't feed wildlife, and here's a good reason why not! These people live about half a mile from us. If they were closer, I'd be complaining. As it is, if they want to attract all the skunks to them, it's ok with me.

We've seen squirrels eating here, in the past, but this is the first time I've seen skunks.

There were two apparently full-grown skunks. (My pic of the other was even worse than this.....)

(The house's front door is immediately left of what you see in this image!!!!!!!)

For those of you not familiar with skunks, here is the wikipedia article...........

Mmmmmmm! Your yellow-tomato salsa is beautiful and looks delish! Unfortunately, we're all too familiar with skunks here and do nothing that I'm aware of to attract them. :) You must have been shocked to see that skunk!

It was delicious! Having a foodie in the house is an excellent thing! :-) Not only does she plan these enticing and scrumptious meals, but she does the shopping for them, too..... Excellent. :-)

I was surprised. I've only twice before ever seen skunks in daylight. These latest two were only 30-40 feet away -- the distance from the public sidewalk to the side of the house, in an older (1945?) suburban sort of area.

It seemed to me that both of them had their tails poised for easy "firing," but I couldn't tell that they were aware of me and Willard (though I bet they totally were).

I couldn't tell that he noticed them, either. I had him on a very short leash, just then, in case he spotted them!

He has had three encounters of the skunk kind, in our own back yard. One very mild, and the other two point blank.

Nature's Miracle skunk recipe Really Does Work. At least for all parts that can be soaked.

The last time he got doused (a few years ago), I
got him into the bathtub, and soaked him all down, except for his face and the top of his head, which just got dabbed with a very damp washcloth. You soak them down, let it stand for 10 minutes, then shampoo.

It totally got rid of the smell, except for his face..... That smelled like skunk, especially on damp days, for almost a full year............

He's a smart dog. Why he didn't learn, after the first time, to leave them alone, I don't know.

We have learned, if we smell the least bit of skunk on the air, to not just let him in.

Letting him run all over the house, wiping his face on every soft surface, before getting him into the tub is really not the Preferred Method for dealing with it...................

You don't need to ask me how I know..........
