A lovely day in Bordeaux. Weather-wise, and otherwise, too.
The foodie really enjoyed the wine-tasting. You can do that at the chateaux where they grow the grapes and make the wine, but then they really pretty much expect you to ... shall we say ... expand the contents of your wine cellar....
This one was at the Ecole de Vin de Bordeaux (School of Wine of Bordeaux), so the emphasis was on education rather than marketing......... It was in English, and the tasters were from the USA, Germany, Roumania (but now living in London), and Singapore.
I wandered around (Have I mentioned this hotel is right in the middle of EVERYTHING??), and took pics of government buildings, parks, flowers, art, the river, the buildings, the cobbled streets, etc, etc, etc.
The nice hotel did not fill up the minibar with ... stuff, so we filled it with yogurt (cow, sheep, and goat!), oj, veggies..... There is a very nice bread store at the corner (about 100 feet from the hotel's front door), so we've been having bread, yogurt, maybe a sandwich, and fruits and veggies, when we're not having big local/regional/seasonal food the rest of the time.
After I wandered this morning, I came back to the hotel. And had a shower. So far the hotel's only detectable flaw is that the boiler is not big enough to accommodate the current number of guests............... Tomorrow I will definitely take a shower RIGHT after I wake up..........
We shared a mozzarella, tomato, and pesto sandwich for lunch, along with more bread and yogurt and a nectarine, and then went out to replace a suitcase.
People who manufacture and/or sell suitcases with cheap crappy wheels should be ... dragged naked over every cobblestone that suitcase got dragged over after the wheel broke......
>:-( Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
The woman who sold us the new suitcase described the broken one as cochonerie. Cochon is "pig", so we conclude it may be French for "crap." So that's our new word for the day, class. The "ch" should be pronounced "sh", so it's coshonerie, with equal accent on each syllable...............
And -- the problem is fixed, and we more yogurt and applesauce at the nice grocery. :-) (Luggage store same short distance from our hotel as grocery.....)
We wandered around this afteernoon (having dropped the results of our shopping at the hotel), and thoroughly enjoyed a large public art piece called the Miroir (mirror).
THere is a very big flat public space that gets wet in various ways. MIst, spurts of water, water gently coming up to the surface.
THis is very cool when it reflects the buildings, but much more fun when families are everywhere and the kids are peeled and and run all around in the water. Very fun to watch them enjoying themselves ... how nice of all those parents to bring them there for our entertainment...........
We tried an example of the "THE local pastry" -- cannele, and found our daily postcards.......
Tonight our fancy dinner in Bordeaux. :-)
I should get dressed..........
Bon soir, tout le monde. :-)
