Leaning out the hotel window, looking east.
Looking west. If you turned right at St. Catherine, you'd be right in front of "our" Paul (bakery).
We did turn right, and walked one block up St. Catherine. It seems like this area must have a name, but I don't know what it is.
We are headed toward the wine-tasting, but are a bit early (as we are wont to be).
Lots of eye-catching stuff to look at.
And cows.
This stuff is all so photogenic -- even if I've showed it to you before, a slightly different angle makes for a different look at it.....
It was so windy on the 27th that we did not use our umbrellas for fear they'd be turned inside out. You can see the European Union flag is wound tight around its pole.
See the sort of newfangled-barcode-y-looking thing in the lower left corner? I saw stuff like this in Second Life, one time, when we were visiting an art installation. I didn't know what it was, and still don't, but I recognize it.
I didn't take a good look at these buildings with this in mind, but wonder if these particular ones are new since WWII. The way all the chimneys are identical makes me wonder.....
It's a different world, growing up and living here in the USA, where most of our country has never been overrun by war. Where our cities weren't heavily damaged (multiple times) in the 20th century alone.
I don't know if it's true, but I wouldn't be surprised if living so much more closely with the aftermath of war might make people more careful about getting involved in the next war that comes along. I would hope so, at least.....
Time for the wine-tasting.
I'm off wandering.
There are lots of sycamores near la Place des Quinconces.
These three are framing some buildings on the other side of the Garonne, which are in almost the same orientation to each other as the trees.
I had thought we might take this tram somewhere, but we never did. We walked, aside from taxis to and from the gare, the whole time we were in Bordeaux.
The Garonne.
Liking the silhouette-y look.
The wide promenade along the riverside.
In order to facilitate chronological traverse of these posts, here is a link to the post that comes after this one.

I just love the character, the architecture, the details... so elaborate!
The "bar codey thing" is effectively that. A 2d matrix of pixels encoding information. Most smart phones can take a picture of it and decode it.
I figured it could be decoded into ... something ... but never had any idea what sort of thing......
??
My personal aesthetic is much more spare than this, but I love looking at all of this exuberance.....
:-)
