November 21

.

We walked the dog in West Park. This is the same crooked tree we saw yesterday.

Autumn clematis seeds.  We saw these last year, but the seed extensions (wings?) were not displaying their "feathers"......

Recognize this, as the buds turn into flowers?

Yep, you're right.

Tiny but bright leaf.

Blurry, probably because I forgot to switch from macro focus to normal focus.

Seriously 'shopped.

Running our usual Saturday errands.  It was not late in the day, and these are not crows.  I don't know what kind of bird they are.  Too small for crows, too big for sparrows.  Starlings, maybe?  Do they do this?  I don't know......

Yep, probably Starlings. They travel in flocks just like crows.

Thanks.

I know sparrows travel in flocks, but they don't perch in this sort of exposed setting. They prefer evergreens, or vine-covered buildings.....

So I was pretty sure they weren't sparrows, even before we were close enough to see that they were too big to be sparrows.

Was that a broccoli or brocoli sort of thing? :D

What about the possibility of red-winged blackbirds?

p.s. I think Wilbur and Enzi are brother and sister separated at birth.

Yep. :-) Broccoli.

I've grown it before. If you keep cutting it (so it can't go to seed), it will keep growing even when it's pretty cold.

The bud-bunches at the end of the season are much smaller than earlier, but they still keep coming.

One year, many moons ago, I was still putting a sprig or two in my weekend-lunch ramen in January.

Forgot to answer the rest..... :-)

I didn't see any color at all (and have never seen a flock of red-wings around here), but they were certainly the right size!

I bet you are right about Wilbur and Enzi.

:-)

Their shared early experience, and their joy in their current lives are not unrelated, I think.

We love it when Wilbur comes in from outside and runs back and forth through the house with that big smile and goofy tuck-butt run dogs use when Joyful............

He does this particularly when it's cold outside.

He may stay out for quite a while, but when he barks and we let him in, he shows us that coming in when he likes makes him Joyful.
