February 4

.

The 4th was another bright sunny day.

The clots of snow are evidence that the plow has been by. The snow that has been compacted by the passage of cars breaks into pieces in the process of being thrown up by the plow.

I am not sure the plow is actually a good thing, at least for this amount of snow. It completely fills up the end of your driveway (with that same heavy compacted snow/ice), requiring yet another stint of shoveling......

(Note how the piles of snow are considerably higher at the sides of the ends of the driveways.  That's snow from the road that got tossed into driveways for homeowners to shovel....  The road was completely passable before the plow came through.....)

This was an attempt to show how deep the snow was.  The snow on the right is higher than his back.  That's the away-from-the-road side of the sidewalk (the snow is not deeper there as a result of the plow).

I feel your pain. I remember the end of the driveway "wars" in Maryland. Yowza.

Yesterday was awful. W and I went for our usual and customary walk, and some of the ends-of-sidewalks at street crossings were piled nearly 3' high.

!!!

For the first time this winter, I slid sharply enough that I wondered if I was going down. I didn't, but sheesh.

The city requires that property owners clear the walk. It's supposed to be right down to bare pavement, across the whole width of the pavement.

And yet city workers are making darn sure that no one can actually walk anywhere, unless they are willing to test their mountaineering skills............

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

The city claims it wants to be more pedestrian-friendly, and yet..................

Sigh.
