nicer weather in Louisville

.

The 16th was a nicer day. Dry. Sunny, mostly. Working on 60 (F).

I walked along the edge of the river, as much as was possible, given the flooding.

Lots of VERY big pieces of wood. Tree trunks. Tree stumps. And, of course smaller pieces, in every size.

I will not dwell on the mountains of human junk. Plastics, mostly.......

The water has gone down noticeably, leaving behind tons and tons of debris to be moved and removed.

Anyway -- during the late morning, I walked east a good way, zigzagging closer to and farther from the river as the flooding required.

I had thought I might get as far as the foot bridge over the Ohio, but decided I was tired (and not sure I wanted to be spending more time in the sun, even though I had my hat). (I had a minor sore throat on Tuesday and yesterday, and believe that I was slightly sick, getting tired very easily.)

So no museums or art galleries yesterday.

That part of Louisville was eerily quiet. A few scattered people, but nothing looked ... lively. Nothing had that bombed-out abandoned look that characterizes way too much of Detroit, but nothing looked thriving, either.

Going west from 4th street (where the hotel is), things look to be on a more solid footing. Not 100%, but less ... quiet..............

We ate dinner at Proof on Main, which is a regional/seasonal place. I had a very nice risotto, and my dining companions had a pork chop and smoked chicken, which, I am told, were very good as well. Nice bread came with dinner; I may try to find the bakery. Or maybe not, if it's not near anything else I plan to visit.

After dinner we walked through the bottom level of a parking structure. It's kind of weird, walking through a parking structure with no cars at all, and then there was the thin layer of liquid silt, all over the floor......... There was a crew there, working on clearing it out. Despite their efforts, there were some 5-6' branches, here and there.

I woke up with a headache this morning. If I can ditch it, my plan for today is the zoo. We have an absolutely primo parking spot in the hotel's structure; I'm loathe to give it up. But that's a stupid reason not to go and do stuff.

On another note, this has to be the noisiest hotel I've ever had the misfortune to inhabit. It's right next to the expressway, so there is constant traffic noise. As if that weren't enough, we're right in the flight path to the airport. Thank goodness it's not a very busy airport. The bathroom fan comes on any time you have the light on, and it's not a quiet fan. The toilet is one of those noisy air-pressure ones. The easy chair (which is quite uncomfortable) makes a lot of noise when you sit down. Even the pillows are crunchy.

And then there are the power-washers in heavy use outside as the flood cleanup continues...........

Not restful......................

At least it's in a very convenient location for downtown.

In order to facilitate reading the Louisville posts in chronological order, I have put a link at the end of each post to the next one. The post after this one is here.

Thanks!

I can only think of two things that are good about being older -- no more washing blood out of my underwear, and fewer and easier-to-get-rid-of headaches.

One excedrin almost always does it, hooray!!!!! :-)
