The 21st was the hottest day of the year (so far). It got to 98.
I was home from work because the landscape guys were coming to revise their previous work to look like the plan on the contract. It's probably just as well that I was home; we don't like to leave fans on when we're gone, and it was 88 downstairs where the thermostat is. It was good for Wilbur that I was home and he could be in the (artificial) breeze.....
The babies were hot, too. We put out a birdbath, thinking that maybe wet adults were one way of cooling down babies. I don't think they ever used it.....
Note tufts.
You can see how enormous they are, for having come out of those little eggs just days ago!
Three beaks and an eye. With tufts.
No tail feathers, almost hardly.

I've been visiting, just not commenting. The babies are getting so big so fast... holy cow. It's truly miraculous how quickly birds grow, isn't it?
Thank you for all of your condolences. Sending big hugs back your way.
You are most welcome. I think about you all every day. Hugs are excellent. Thank you. I think that shared tears lighten the sadness just the tiniest bit..........
It *is* miraculous how fast birds grow. Mind bending. Those eggs were so small, just a few weeks ago, and now the babies are, well, bird-sized!
It was only a month ago that the parents began building that nest, but in that brief time I became totally accustomed to watching all the activity. I wonder how long before I stop thinking about them when I'm near a window that faces the nest, or when I'm going out the back door.....
I hope they'll use the nest next year!
