On the 8th we enjoyed this special dinner.
I forgot to get a pic of the spreads. They were a nice set of different colors, textures, and tastes. I liked the other two with just a bit of the harissa.....
It never occurred to me to put pickle in soup, but it is a very good idea for a pea or bean soup!
I don't think I'd ever had sardine before. It's a very marine fish -- fishy and smelling like the ocean. I am not accustomed to doing my own butchery, and managed to, well, butcher it, as I struggled to rid it of bones before I got around to the eating part. I thought it was tasty, but would have preferred to have someone else manage the rendering-it-edible part of the process.
The tuna (inside the triangle) was lovely.
The teeny bean-ish things are olives! I'd never seen such little ones. I liked them.
This is the couscous, with lamb and vegetables. Yum.
Dessert was lovely, too. The cookies were yummy. The sesame seed was a savory contrast to the sweet dates, and I liked it. I had never had pistachio cream. It was very good. I had also never had mulberry jam. I've been surprised that no one seems to cultivate mulberries. They grow like weeds, and produce tons of fruit, but the fruit I've tasted is tasteless. I expect they have special varieties of mulberry in Tunisia -- this was tasty jam.
I liked the tea, too, but did not take its pic.....
I have had Tunisian food twice, now, and have enjoyed it each time. I would eat more.....
Here is my daughter's take on this delicious dinner.
