no power.............

.

Our power went off, Saturday evening at about 7:55.  It was off until about noon today.

We are right in town, so we have city water.  (Cold running water, check.)

Our water heater is gas.  (Hot running water, check.)

Our stove is gas. (Can be lit with a match -- Cooking, check.)

It wasn't too hot outside.  It wasn't too cold outside.

If we had to be without power for 40 hours, it really wasn't all that bad.  We went out for ice, and filled up coolers with stuff from the fridge, and hoped for the best with the freezer.  This morning we ate the eggs.  We'll throw away some stuff (like bottles of salad dressing that have been in the fridge for months and months.

Basically we have come away from it unscathed, though feeling like we didn't have much of a holiday weekend!

This is the longest we've ever been without power, including the Great Blackout.

I know I've never had to wash dishes by hand because there was no power.  That was the first thing I did after the power came on -- start up the dishwasher.

Well, I guess that's not true -- I did turn on the fridge.  THEN I started up the dishwasher.

I think this is the first time we have ever had alllllll the silverware dirty.....

Thank goodness for the people at DTE, who are working overoverovertime, getting everyone connected to the power!

I guess that's one of the good things about living in civilization (i.e. town). Out here no power = no water (well with pump), no heat or a/c (electric heat pump), no cooking (electric stove).

But then we could always take the trailer and go camp somewhere the power is on . . .

Many things good about civilization. :-) Water, power or now power. Being able to walk to the places I need to get to -- work, library, post office, downtown, schools.... We have a major grocery (and a KMart, for that matter) about a mile away, but the street crossings to get there are scary.

Bad things, too, of course, including WAY too much proximity to other people and their noise Noise NOISE **NOISE**......

So glad your power came back on... I can remember as a child how cool it was when the power went out and what an exciting adventure it was. As an adult, it's an annoyance and a major inconvenience. Ahh... the joys and innocence of youth! :)

We were glad to have it back, too.

With running hot & cold water, and a functional stove, it really wasn't too bad. (Luckily we all like to read..... :-) )

So glad the weather was ok. When it's winter, you really have to move to a hotel (that allows dogs), and then you worry about pipes freezing, etc.

It was kinda warm the first night, but then it cooled off and the second night was fine.

Another good thing about this happening in summer rather than winter was that we got a lot more hours of daylight!

:-)

I can't remember the power going off when I was a kid! Surely it must have, but I don't remember it.

The annoyance level of something surely depends in part on one's level of responsibility for coping with it!! :-) If you're the one who has to worry about the frozen pipes, it's a lot more annoying than if you just get to move to the hotel and play in the pool! :-)

I just found out yesterday that a painter I "know" from reading her blog lost her home to the Texas fires.

When one thinks of "inconvenience" -- I feel that I was barely on any radar, along that dimension!!!
