October 12

.

On the 12th, my better half was playing bridge all day, so I walked downtown.

Our more-than-a-week of perfect weather was coming to an end. The clouds were rolling in.

Chrysanthemums.  A good portion of the 12th was All About Yellow.

One of the large planters along Main Street.  Marigolds, and ... purple stuff.

I love the smell of marigolds..........

I would never pick someone else's flower, but I thought probably no one would mind if I took one finished bloom.

Maple and marigold.

Not sure what sort of weedy tree this is.  It is impossible to exaggerate how yellow it was, the week containing the 12th.

Walking to a meeting.  Yellow locust, with maple and linden leaves.

Oops.  Well, ok, there's a little yellow, with all the P I N K !!!

Love the way they worked to match the mums with the tiles.

After the meeting.  Back to work.

Division Street, near the Ann Arborsbad Cavern.

Stacks of what I believe is concrete reinforcement.  Pattern/repetition.

Oooh. Gorgeous - they're all gorgeous. Okay, why do I think that yellow flowers are so darn hard to take pictures of? And yours are so beautiful?

I also love how they matched the mums to the tiles... how pretty. :)

[blush] Thanks!

I think yellow flowers are hard because the value is so light. When very light values are against darker backgrounds, they often get blown out (so all detail is lost).

Trust me, I take bad pics of yellow flowers. :-) I just don't show them very often. :-)

It was cloudy on the 12th, which is a big help, and then I heightened the contrast in Photoshop Elements, which, also, is a big help. :-)

Cloudy days are very good for taking pics of things that would have such high value contrast that the light stuff is likely to get blown out.

Since I'm not the sort of photographer who is patient enough to wait for The Right Conditions, I try to make the best of what I have when I'm where ever I am. Cloudy days definitely easier, when photographing white or yellow flowers!

Oh, and I loved that they thought about the tile when they bought the mums, too! :-)
