I have a new plan for avoiding Walk Boredom.
I'm thinking I'll have someone who is driving somewhere drop me a mile or so from home. That should result in a number of new walks.
On the 8th, my better half was going to his favorite Ann Arbor golf course -- Leslie Park. He dropped me just on the other side of the Broadway Bridge.
I hadn't been a pedestrian over there since about 1980. The bridge is completely new since then, and I believe the park on the south side of the bridge may be new, as well. I had never been down there, in any case.
There are a lot of historical markers just there. Old ones, like this, and newer ones. I didn't read them all, this time. I'll have to get dropped there again, with the intention to read the markers.....
The Broadway Bridge goes over the Huron River, and also goes over the tracks for the passenger trains that go between Chicago and Detroit.
I'm not sure what's up with this still water. Just to the right of the footpath is the river, which was moving swiftly southeast (away from the bridge, in the direction we're looking).
Closeup of an image very similar to the previous one. I'd like to walk on that footpath, but couldn't tell how to get on it, either from up on the bridge, or down in the park on the other side of the river.
I've now crossed the part of the bridge that went over the river. There is a way off the bridge down into the park on that side of the river. You can go down stairs, or down a long winding sidewalk.
I went down the stairs, and went under the bridge. There were a number of stencils under there, including these two, which were on the sidewalk under the bridge.
I came out from under the bridge, and walked along the river into the park. The building on the other side of the river is the vision part of the University's medical complex.
Closeup of above; reflections and rocks.
Weeds growing beside the river. I could see little fishies in the water. Long skinny ones.
Walking away from the river on the long winding sidewalk that will lead up to the bridge, we see the old train station. It's a fancy restaurant, now.
Oak leaves.
There's the part of the bridge that goes over the railroad tracks. The old train station, and the new one, too, are to our left.
That's the new train station, framed by the bridge (beyond the bridge). Pitiful, in comparison to the cool old one.............
Looking back where we came from. That's the same little red red oak we looked at a minute ago.
I walked the length of that sidewalk, and got back on the bridge, to walk across the railroad tracks.
Grass and shadows, on the pedestrian part of the bridge.
Looking back across the bridge. I began this walk more or less across the street from the brown brick building just left of the bottom of the nearest lights.
Walking on home.
I think this was a construction-type paint application, as opposed to a graffiti-type application, but I like it anyway.
This is on the side of the building on the northeast corner of First and Miller. We drive by there all the time. I never noticed this sign (which isn't large). I like the way the blue shades from lighter to darker. Even the sign seems tranquil, doesn't it?
I never noticed the irregular bricks, either, until I saw this "on the big screen." I like them, too.
Serviceberry.
Horse chestnut. Now that is a BIG leaf.
Almost home.
Nice seasonal display in a window box.
Walking Wibbler.
Now you see him....
Now you can still see him, but he's sorta camouflaged.....
Maple.
Another maple.
Totally loving this color, for as long as we have it...........
Oak leaves.
Maple.
