May 12 -- farmers' market, Zingerman's, walking

.

This is an instance of the camera seeing color that was completely different from what I saw.

This farmers' market coleus was rusty orange.

So interesting, that the camera saw so much purple, rather than orange.......

At least the camera is honest -- what it shows on the view screen is what you're going to get.  So you can pay attention, and keep in mind the difference between what you saw and what the camera saw, and make attempts to correct while post-processing.  (I tried, but couldn't get anything like what I remembered.  And I kind of like the ghostliness of this image.)

We bought rhubarb, asparagus, spinach, and a bag of "spicy mix" salad greens.  We had a lovely salad for lunch, dressed with a vinaigrette made with Merlot vinegar and a nice olive oil.  I could eat that every day!

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

We went over to Zingerman's next door for coffee and a treat.  I love to look at the cupcakes.

Of course they do fancy big cakes, too.

And fancy European-style pastries.

Good old American cherry pie.  Love the stars, and the big sugar on the crust.....

Here's what we had.

Coffee, with and without milk, with reflections.

Momentarily distracted by the excellent wood used in a highchair.

Ok, back to business.

Gorgeous, yes?

Yummy, too.

We went back through the farmers' market on our way back to the car, and bought tomato and basil plants.  Frog Holler has a lot of different kinds of tomato plants.  They have a printed handout listing many of the varieties, with descriptions.  I'd picked up a handout the week before, so I knew what I wanted.....  We got a Green Zebra, a Pruden's Purple, a Matt's Wild Cherry, and a Black Cherry.  And six basil plants.

It was a cloudy day, with rain predicted.  Perfect for planting out little plants!  We got all of them into the ground, and also planted radishes, beans, and thyme.

Later, still not raining, I took my walk.

Chives.

Iris.

You can see the pale ones (as immediately above) near the top of this next image....

Oak leaf hydrangea.
