June 23

.

Walking past the beautiful garden at the end of my old block, on our way to the farmer's market.

The fluffy pink poppies are almost done.

Closer crop of the above, lightened and flipped 180.

This little gal arrived just before we did.

The garden is changing.  Poppies finishing, coneflowers beginning.

Sometimes I wonder what the camera is thinking, when it decides what to focus on.  This time it chose the second layer of fuzzy sepals.  (as always, click on any pic to embiggen)

Closer crop of the above, with sharp clear points (the only sharp part of the pic above).....

That's why I essentially always click off three or more shots of the exact same image.  The camera makes different decisions from shot to shot.  I am much more likely to get an image I like if I have a few to choose from.

This is much more nearly what I was thinking of, but still the middle of the flower is not sharp.  There must not be enough contrast there for the camera to see it clearly.

Phlox is also new to this garden for this year.

Asiatic lilies.

Love the fallen phlox flowers in the lilies.

At the market.  Kohlrabi.

Chard.

Over to Next Door for our treat and beverage.

I had tart-cherry strudel, which was very good.  Not very photogenic, alas.  The strudel dough is darkish tan, and the cherries, after baking, were a fairly similar value.  I would definitely eat it again.

Looking around........

I don't know that I would prefer to eat lime toffee, but I would prefer to buy the lime toffee label........  Love the chartreuse with the orange.

Something we hadn't seen in the US before were calissons.  I failed to photograph them, but we had a taste.  They were a bit different than our memory of the ones my daughter brought home from France two years ago, but reminiscent.  They are the signature sweet of Aix-en-Provence, and most of the world supply of calissons is made in Provence.

There are more and more people selling French pastries at the farmers' market.  On the 23rd we saw canelés.  They are the signature sweet of Bordeaux, and we tried one when we were there.

How nice to have treats that remind us of past voyages, so readily available to us here and now!

On the way back to the car.

More lilies.

More coneflowers.

Closer crop of the above.

Poppy.

Daylilies.

Phlox in the sunshine.

Asiatic lilies, with poppies and coneflowers in the background.
