I have blogged before about my daughter's incredible Ann Arbor Pioneer high school swim team, and about her swim-team "sisters." Kara Lynn Joyce was my daughter's "sister" in 2002.
Kara Lynn swam for Team USA in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. Here is an article describing the encouragement a young Kara Lynn received from Olympic swimmer Summer Sanders, and talking about the present-day Kara Lynn hoping to encourage younger swimmers.
Kara Lynn and her family were very supportive of my daughter in high school. I'll never forget Kara Lynn's dad, sitting with me during prelims, when my daughter was hoping to get to swim in the finals for her event. He cheered for my kid, and he counted up the swimmers' times, to be able to tell me "She made it!" into the top 16, and would get to swim in the finals the next day.
The article says there were Joyce tshirts for sale at these Olympic trials (though they sold out in the first three days). I would absolutely have bought one, had I had the opportunity.
Today Kara Lynn is competing for a chance to swim for the USA in London.
We are rooting for her!
Go, Kara Lynn, GO!!!!!
