October 24

.

On Wednesdays it's a lot easier to park right near the farmers market.  Fourth Ave is paved with brick, just north of Catherine.

I don't remember the brick as being this purple, but I like the purple with the yellow of the gingko leaves.

The cultural melting pot that is Ann Arbor results in a lot of things at the farmers' market that are new to me.  The farmer who brought this produce was speaking what I think was Chinese with his customers.  I recognize the brussels sprouts, but didn't know most of the things he was selling.

Fewer vendors, and fewer customer, on Wednesday.  We'd never noticed this cornucopia with a snail-eyed alien before.  I've seen the alien painted on different sidewalks, downtown, but had never noticed this one before.  I don't know if it's new, or if I've just never noticed.  It is rather faded, so I'm guessing it's been there for a while.

After we got home from the farmers' market, I listened to some Model Thinking lecture, and then took the red car to the dealership for an oil change, etc.

For reasons that entirely escape me, they always have the tv on, loud, to some talk show.  On the 24th it seemed to me that every single person there was interacting with an electronic device rather than watching tv.  I wish they'd turn that tv off........

I thought ahead, and borrowed my daughter's ipod.  I listened to piano music, which, at least, meant that I could rarely make out any of the words from the tv.

That blue car is a Nissan Leaf electric car.  I expect that electric cars are cleaner than gasoline cars, as it is cheaper to clean up the air from one power plant than from a million cars, but I don't know that is true.  Especially if you consider all the costs of acquiring and transporting the fuel to the power plant.

I know when I walk I am doing the right thing, but it's hard to know what's best when driving.

Do you remember that I went to a lecture several weeks ago about eye disease and artists?

I put the speaker's book on reserve at the library.  Here it is..........

When I got home from the dealership, we had salad for lunch.  Isn't this gorgeous?  This is a "spicy mix."  I know it has mustard greens, and I don't know what else.  I love the combinations of red/greens, and of skinny/wide leaves.  It's interesting when there are a lot of different greens in the mix.  Each bite is a little different.

I know it's good for me to eat a wide variety of greens, and I bet it's good to eat things that are beautiful.......

Later.  Walking.

I think this is a dogwood.

Zinnia.

I don't know what this is.

Camouflage.

Maple leaves, at Wilbur-nose level.

Japanese maple, in the harsh late-afternoon sun.

I don't know what this is, either.  I like the color, and the spiky edge.

Same leaf, upside down.

And again, with interesting shadow.

Oak-leaf hydrangea.

Maple.

Linden.

Maple.

We had lecsó again, for what is almost certainly the last time this year.  I am so glad we have been introduced to this lovely way to enjoy the end-of-summer pepper bounty!  This is many peppers, of 5 or 6 different kinds.

I chopped (and chopped) peppers, and my daughter put the lecsó together when I was at yoga.

Walking to yoga, on a gorgeous evening.  It was nearly 80 on the 24th.

Rose.
