"obviously"....

Words like "obviously" and "clearly" are not helpful to listeners, when the goal is education.

Maybe [whatever it is] is obvious to the speaker, but to the listener?



"Is this argument valid?  Obviously, it is."

Bad form, sir.

"Is this argument valid?  Yes." does the trick, without indicating the person you are attempting to instruct is a moron if they are not as facile with the material as you may be.



Put-downs are counterproductive as well as rude.  If the goal is to educate, I suggest abandonment of this kind of language.
