April 10 -- lunch

.

Stopping at an autostrade rest stop for lunch.

Nice view!

Here's the rest stop.

One last look, before we go inside.

The rest stop was similar in many ways to one you'd see along the US interstate.  The women's room looked very familiar.  The fact that there was food was familiar, and both places sell sandwiches, and coffee, and lots of other stuff they hope you'll buy.

Wine?  That's different.  No wine in a rest stop along a US toll road.

Candy?  Yes.  Nutella?  Probably not............

Hmm.  Pocket coffee.  Never heard of that....  There was an espresso bar here -- you could have real coffee, if you wanted.........

Plenty of stuff for tempting the kiddies.

And pasta.  Lots of pasta.  I'm guessing that pasta with squid ink is very popular right now.  You could find it everywhere.  Look at the bright colors on the shelves straight ahead.  Lots of food coloring!  I have never seen dry pasta for sale in a US road stop.

This was my choice.  Mozzarella, arugula, and I am not sure what grana is, in this context.  It usually means wheat.....

This was tasty.  It was not all soggy and disgusting the way a sandwich in a US tollway stop is likely to be.  The bread had substance and its edges were crisp, the cheese had flavor, the meat was good, and I really like arugula on a sandwich a lot better than I like lettuce!

I have no idea what this is............  The quote, in red, pointed to by the red point on the label is translated by Google as "if you do not lick your fingers enjoy only half" -- not helpful for figuring out what is in the containers.

More temptation for the kiddies.

See my daughter's take on rest-stop offerings here.

Back outside.  Flowers on the trees, flowers in the grass......

In the grass.

On the trees.

Italian dandelion.

Hmm.  This looks like viburnum, but didn't smell like anything.....

Forsythia.

Back on the road.
