Carole King

.

I love learning things I never knew before.  (Well, *good* things, that is.....)

Last night I stumbled across the concert at the White House where Carole King was given the the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize.

Of course I am familiar with some of Carole's oeuvre, but I didn't know she wrote Loco-Motion!  Did you?

I enjoyed the concert, and am enjoying checking out her hit list for others I know but did not realize were hers..............

Love PBS!

I believe that Carole King was part of the gang of writers in the Brill Building. They turned out a ton of hits. Pretty sure I watched a story about the writers and the hits a while ago. Probably PBS as well.

Yup, Carole King was one of a large group of talented writers who wrote together in the Brill Building. They turned out a ton of hits. I watched a show about it a while ago, probably also on PBS.

I found something on youtube (after I saw the Gershwin award show) that showed her talking about being part of a stable of writers. She said she and her husband at the time, and some other couple, would be told "Write a new song for Bobby Vee" or whatever.

I didn't know any of that. Not that she'd been a very successful songwriter before she ever started performing, or that there even were stables of song writers! Now that I know it, it's one of those "of COURSE there are" things, but I never thought about it before.....

Sorry for the frustration over posting -- I've got moderation turned on, so posts don't show up until after I approve them.

There should be some way for me to make that clear. I'll go look and see if I can figure out how to get some sort of message to that effect on the commenting page......

Ok. I am seeing a message (from me) now, on this commenting page, that says moderation is on.

Sorry! I should have done that at the time I turned moderation on!

No worries - I was working with a browser that wasn't being very friendly so didn't notice the message about moderation. All things in moderation. nyuck, nyuck! :-)
