Bert, on cowshe, comfy and snug

.

Jeannie kindly asked, so here is Bert just minutes ago (9/25/13), 11:23 am.

He was asleep, till I moved and made noise.  He'd be glad to have a snack, or go for a walk, but until then, he's snoozing, comfy and warm.

He had his last nsaid yesterday morning (and the last narcotic painkiller a day before that), and is still on antibiotics for several more days.

The first clavamox I was given for him expired last month.

It comes in blister packs.  With the expiration date on every (single) pill.  But did I notice that telltale 8/13?  No.   No, I didn't.  Not until he'd been taking it for several days.

One month -- it *probably* didn't matter -- but still.  I swapped 8/13 for 9/14 as soon as I noticed, and when I talked to the vet about it, she thought it would be a good idea to make sure he had a full 10 days of NOT-expired antibiotics, so he's got a way to go with the clavamox.

All of the meds he came home from emergency with said "give with food," and while two were on a convenient twice-a-day schedule, the other one was three times.  So once a day he had all three, and then two other times he had one, and one other time, two.

I'm sure you'll have noticed that this adds up to FIVE meals.  *He* certainly did, and he's not best pleased to be reduced back to a paltry and hardly sustainable two!  AND he's back on kibble (no more canned food!).  He was perfectly happy with many meals of canned food, and would also be happy with canned food AND kibble.

Unfortunately, we are not disposed to help him with his goal of becoming the world's first 300-pound beagle.  The ER vet volunteered that his body weight was good, as she checked him out.  We intend to keep it that way!

He is feeling pretty much normal, at this point, I think.  He is having more trouble coming up the stairs than before, but I'm not sure that isn't coincidental.  Yesterday when I was putting my shoes on, to take him for his mosey, he ran back and forth as he does when he's excited (and the weather is cool).  It's good to see him feeling lively!
