September 17

.

Bert went in for his oral surgery just after 8:00 am.  It was a chilly morning, around 40 (F).  When I walked him before taking him to the vet, I heard the guys who were working on the street talking about the temperature.  I wonder if they can't put down asphalt if it's too cold..........

At around 9:00 am, they were smoothing down the final layer of asphalt.  There was an amazing combination of steam and sun-at-just-the-right-angle.

We are glad to have all the noise and commotion over, but we miss the "no through traffic!" sign at the Huron end of our street.

I walked me, in the afternoon.  It was a gorgeous day.

I stopped at the pet-food store in the strip mall to get some canned food, on my way to retrieve Bert from the vet.

Wow.  (looking south)

Looking west.

Hope Bert is doing OK. Sweet baby. And thanks for the nice comments on Greg! We are hoping he'll place (right now he's in the top 100 but it's a long way to the top 10!)

Cheers!

De suggests you send the pictures to the city to show the "beautification" of new asphalt in action.

:-) The conditions just happened to be perfect that morning. I'm glad I was home, and I noticed, and I could go out and take some pics.

I'm pretty much down on asphalt. I just saw something on tv in the last few days about how much cooler the planet would be if all pavement was light-colored, and it was scary how much difference that would make.......

I knew that already -- any time you walk across a black parking lot in the summer time, you know it's tens of degrees hotter than anywhere else.... But to hear how much difference it would make, from something that purported to be scientific, rather than just my own conclusions...... Scary.
