Here's a TED talk on de-extinction (bringing back passenger pigeons, for example), which I learned about from the extra info in Genes and the Human Condition.

What we can do, right now, is mind-bending.  SO much more than I knew.

And the knowledge/technology in this area is increasing faster than Moore's Law.........
