toxins a mother is exposed to can affect her great-grandchildren

.

Epigentics is the study of changes in DNA expression that result from an organism's environment.  Not changes to DNA itself, but changes to the way that DNA is expressed.

Transgenerational epigenetics is the study of such changes that are inherited by an organism's offspring (children, grandchildren, perhaps even more distant offspring).

Here's an article about study of toxin exposure and transgenerational epigenetics -- yet another article from SmithsonianMag.com (this one depressing -- why are we so quick to assume that our actions, however radical, will only have positive consequences???).

Spreading poison through our environment is NOT a good idea.  It is, in fact, a very VERY ***BAD*** idea......................................

Sometimes we may not know that something is a poison.

But when we are quite sure it is a poison, and we continue to produce and spread it anyway ... what's up with that?  Maybe we're ok with spreading it in someone else's back yard?  Or maybe we're so focused on making money from selling it that we delude ourselves into thinking it's not harmful?

Sigh.
