January 16

.

One of the unfortunate things about getting older is that your teeth are not what they were.  One of my molars had a small crack, which, I was told, would only get worse, and I should let them deal with it before that happened........  Sigh.

On the 16th I went to the dentist to get prepped for a new crown.  The rooms where they work on you have windows that let you see outside.  Crab apple, close to the building, and big trees farther away.

New technology is everywhere, in dentistry.  Not just the way they keep track of things, but the substances they use to make molds of teeth, and to fix teeth.........  My dentist said that he is not sure that anything he learned, when he was in dental school, is still relevant.......

The red one is the one they worked on.

I thought maybe the blue ones are the ones that already have crowns, but I don't have as many crowns as there are blue teeth (yet!), so I'm not sure what the scoop is.  Maybe the ones with blue hashmarks are ones they've worked on in this office?  I don't know.

The blue line on top of my lower right front tooth should be on the back of the tooth, I think.  That's the tooth that lost a good chunk of the back of itself, a year or so ago.  I have no idea how it happened -- I just noticed that the top of the tooth was too sharp....  The dentist squeezed me in, the very next day, and fixed me up, good as new, with some of that new technology (a bit of this, a smear of that, some magic light, a touch of polishing, and I was good to go -- excellent!).

Back at home.  Snowing again.  Only a couple of inches.  No big deal.

This is pretty much a different image of the bottom of the pic above.

It shows about 12" of snow left on the ground, as the land slants down toward the curb cut, despite the very warm weekend we had on the 11th and 12th (multiple 40-degree days).

Ugh on the dentist -- Just had a crown and came back poorer but with better teeth!

I try to regard the dentist (and his minions) benignly.

It's not just anyone who is willing to hurt you, for your own good.

I work at being grateful for their willingness to hurt me (believing as hard as I can that I really need what they recommend, because mostly I don't have symptoms yet, from whatever is wrong).

But all in all, if I'm going to pay someone to take care of me, I'd rather have a massage!
