On the 27th of December, I told you about a lecture I listened to, given by Martin Rossman.
He recommended The Brain that Changes Itself, which is about brain plasticity.
I finished it today. It's very interesting. Dr. Doidge interviews many people involved in studying brain plasticity, and describes their work.
For a long time, everyone "knew" that human brains were "hardwired after we were no longer children." That no change (other than death -- of neurons, or of our selves) was possible after we were adults.
This is totally false -- our brains change and develop new neurons and new connections-between-neurons all the time. For our whole lives. The way(s) we use our brains impact(s) the way(s) they are connected (and hence, the way(s) they work). All the time. Minute to minute, day to day, year to year.....
A very interesting and readable book. Recommended.
