Another early-morning walk with my sister-in-law. Another excellent sky.
In the mornings, after our walk, my sister-in-law and brother went to work. I had nice quiet mornings at their house. They had thoughtfully laid in Cheerios (my breakfast of choice), so I showered, ate, listened to some Learning How to Learn lectures, let the dogs out and in, and then got ready to go over to my parents' house.
Here's the very nice centerpiece that was on the Happy Anniversary table the night before. The grocery closest to my parents' place has a full-service florist. She designed this to Dad's specifications, and did a lovely job!
On the 22nd, my dad and I were victorious at getting the new monitor (purchased the previous day) plugged into the old computer, and, much better!, getting the monitor to display signals from the computer!!! I wasn't sure that was going to happen -- the age difference between the two is not small. But with a certain amount of futzing, and with a bunch of experimentation, and a few bits of crawling around on the floor, we got it going. Hooray! (I should have taken a victory pic, but it didn't occur to me to do so........)
Another project my dad wanted assistance with was photograph sorting. Pictures that he took, up to about the mid 1970s, were sorted and labeled years ago (my sister and I saw to that on Christmas vacations when I was in college).
There are, however, LOTS of pictures that my dad did not take. Some from the 1800s. Some much newer. We have a pic of my grandma (my dad's mother) and her sisters as little girls.
I remember finding a copy of that pic one Christmas eve. One of my cousins and I were to sleep in our Grandpa's study. We were in junior high -- maybe we were 12? We started looking through drawers at some point, and found photos.... We found the pic of the little girls, and were looking at their clothes, when it struck one of us that one of the girls was Aunt Em. Whoa.............. Then we realized another was Aunt Florence. And wait.... Yes. One was Grandma......... We knew the oldest one had to be Aunt May. We were unable to recognize the other two. (My grandma was one of 8 girls to live to adulthood -- one more did not -- and there were no boys in the family.)
I am writing this post about Aug 22 on September 7. In checking to see in what year my grandma was born, I just realized that today is her birthday. Happy Birthday, Grandma!
She was born in 1886. In that pic of the little Warner sisters she must be about 6 or 7? Which means it would have been taken in the early 1890s........ That was the earliest photo we found on August 22.
Having looked at the family tree info to get Grandma's birthday, I believe the other two little girls in the pic were Viola and Esther (who is the one who died when only three years old -- if I remember the story properly, it was scarlet fever that took her......).
Dad and I spent a bunch of time going through various boxes which contained photos from various sources. We got a good start on sorting them -- one pile "before 1950," and one pile for every decade after 1950. We added labels here and there (some in the form of post-it notes).
I need to get a pen which a photography shop tells me will be permanent and yet will NOT bleed through from the back to the front, before I go back to Kansas...........
Dad and I were pretty good about marching through the pics, rather than lingering. Even though we found his little kid pics, and a bunch of my mom's little kid pics, too.
Here's a beautiful dreamy pic of my mom from the late 1930s.
There was a school for photographers in my mom's town as she grew up. You can see why they liked to have her pose for them..............
(Blogger has UNhelpfully made her lips blue -- sigh and argh.)

What wonderful memories! I wish all families had kept photos. My sister and brother-in-law, in cahoots with my youngest sister, gathered up all they could find of our family (seven kids and our parents died in the 60's while we were quite young). They burned all the photos, old report cards, letters, etc. to CDs for each of us. It was THE BEST gift ever!
