October 23, part 2

.

The back side of a redbud leaf.  This is the tree near West Park that had the really red young leaves.

The younger leaves are still redder than the older ones.

The top of a fallen leaf from the redbud tree.  Most redbuds have green leaves, but some have the excellent red ones, that turn colors in the fall as well as being more colorful during the growing season.

Maple.

Another maple.

Looking west, through West Park.

Here's that same fiery little oak we looked at earlier on the 23rd.

Here's the pond at West Park.  It's really not very big at all, to be able to sustain so many ducks.  Not to mention so many fish.  Not to mention muskrats and turtles and frogs.....

Here you can see almost all of the pond.  The far corners are cut off, but they don't extend back much farther than what you see.

To give you an idea of scale, these are mallard ducks.  Not very big.  You can see the ones at the far end of the pond do not appear to be much smaller than the closer ones.  It's not a very big pond.

A pair of mallards, swimming toward the fall reflections.

I wonder if these are siblings.

A close crop of part of the upper edge of the above, with "poster edges" filter.

Leaves in the pond, with duck feathers.

Another gorgeous, bright blue day.

One of the grandmother oaks in West Park.

These oak leaves are from a tree closer to home than the one above.

A handful of leaves.  I liked the light coming through from the back.

Same handful of leaves, in shade.

Mostly maple.
