October 25

.

Tulip tree leaves, seen through the front window (with maple leaves behind).

Autumn at the farmers' market.

I don't know what kind of tree these leaves belong to.  Small trees, near the door into the Pittsfield branch of the library.

Winesaps have long been my favorite apple.  Unfortunately, none of the winesaps we got this year were what I expected.  Very tough peelings, and, only if we were lucky, hints of the flavor I expect.  Sigh.  Some of them have not even looked like winesaps (too tall, too shiny, too much green on the shoulders.....  The red one below purports to be a winesap.

The one on the left is a russet, and I'm happy to be able to report that the russets we've had this year have been delicious.

Color in the neighborhood.  I think the red is a Japanese maple.  They seem to turn color later than other maples.

Old dog, moseying.

Another Japanese maple, in the strong afternoon sun.
