December 19

.

On the 19th I visited a friend who has moved north of Ann Arbor.  Lots of big sky in her neighborhood!

K. loves to garden.  Here is a rose of Sharon, interestingly gone to seed.

Ice on her driveway, looking like a flock of crows.

Tree bones against a partly-cloudy sky

With "glowing edges."  I like the drama of all this contrast.

After a tour of her lovely house and a look at some of the art (she made a lot of that art -- she does wonderful work in fabric), we went into town (Brighton), and had a look at some of the shops there.  There is a lot of interesting work to see.

K. and I are excellent "looking at art" buddies.  We like to spend about the same amount of time looking at things, and the same things interest us, often.  We have traveled to lots of quilt shows together.  It's not a given that two people are compatible travelers -- I feel lucky that K. and I have have been able to enjoy so many excursions together.

On the 19th we enjoyed one gallery in particular, but I didn't do a good enough job of capturing information to be able to send you there.  Alas.  It has a lot of diverse work by many different artists/craftspeople working in many different media.  Some of the work is Michigan or Detroit focused, and some isn't.  Lots to see and enjoy!

We had lunch, and, of course, there was much chatting.  After lunch we visited a nice yarn store and a nice quilt-fabric store.  A very good day!

On my way out K.'s driveway to go home, the view south looked like this.  Very dramatic -- bare trees against an active sky.

Back home.  Getting ready to walk -- sugary snow on myrtle and maple leaves.  It had snowed the night before -- just this much -- and it was cold enough on the 19th that none of it melted.
