The 9th was a fantastically gorgeous day. 40 (F), blue, not windy........
You can see a bit of snow in the bottom right. This day was unusually warm for January in Michigan!
We looked at the remains of these trees before. This time the camera remembers them the way I remember them from before. To my eyes, they were less red than this on the 9th. I saw them as more brown. The flower shapes were still very visible, but not as red as this, to my eyes.
The shavings on the ground still show the red, just as they did the last time we stopped here.
Color in Zingerman's Next Door!
Cheddar/herb scone. Mmmmmmmmm.......
Iron Goddess in a photogenic pot, on a reflective black table.
We lost our sunshine. The day wasn't nearly as spectacular on the way home.
But we still found things to look at. This is the east end of one of those telephone-connector box thingies.
The south side. Girl reading to birds and bunnies. And bear..... And this is what the fox above is listening to, too, I bet......
West end. See the bear?
North side. These little ones do not seem to be paying attention to the story.
Hooray for the Arts Alliance, helping these boxes be attractive rather than ugly!
We walked through the park. I was very surprised to see fish. Fish and more fish. Bigger fish than I have ever seen here before. Working on 12" long, some of them!
When I first saw the fuzzy orange, I wondered if it was paint. But no. Fish.
The ice wasn't very thick........
The fish moved. It seemed they knew we were there; they often moved away from us. And they just moved, even when not "away from us."
Look at what appears to be a hole in the ice (upper left quadrant), with one fish directly underneath the hole, and another fish just a little closer to us than the hole.
See the same hole, now with just one fish? We could see their tails waving, as they moved around. They weren't exactly zooming around, but they were much more lively than I would have predicted they would be, in near-freezing water............
They are not native to this area, of course, and I hope they don't get into the river. But I am always glad to see them...................
Later. Grocery-store flowers.
Hooray for orange, wherever we can spot it, especially in January!
