The Blank Park Zoo has a small area where small creatures are up close and personal, with teenage volunteers to make sure the animals don't escape.
No danger of escape here -- this is a small tortoise. Shell about a foot long? It was happily eating those dried up leaves.
The other critters we saw in this area were domesticated rats (they were the escape risk -- the volunteers had to keep picking them off the fence and returning them to the designated area), a hedgehog, giant cockroaches, and a giant millipede. I suppose the invertibrates could have escaped, left to their own devices, but I didn't see them try.
