Something I think we all need to keep in mind is that this was a very close election.

No 98-2.  Much (much) closer to 50-50.

I am pretty sure we will all be better off (and our country will surely be better off) if we can keep in mind that there are A LOT of people who do not agree with us on many issues.

I am pretty sure that most of us are very sure about our priorities and our values. We need to remember that there are A LOT of people who have the same righteous feelings about values and priorities that are in conflict with our own.

If I could make one wish for our country (after doing away with the electoral college!), it would be that we work hard at figuring out how to be able to talk to each other. Verbal (and, worse, physical) attacks will not move us forward.

I wonder if it is possible for us to respect the sincere feelings behind each other’s beliefs, even if we can’t understand how anyone could espouse those beliefs? Might that be a start?

Well stated, Vicki. Yes, over half of us (or at least slightly over half who voted -- which is disturbing in itself) are like minded. I suspect some of those who voted for Trump aren't as bad as it seems they might be if we judge them by him.

What it is time for is a good rethink, a look toward 2018 and always remembering that kindness, compassion, care for all should be among our top guiding priciples not as party affiliates or even Americans but as human beings.

So right, Jeanie.
