Parade, from our tenth-floor room window. (Glad to have a zoom lens!)
Hydrating. My water glass, on the windowsill. I took the pic because of the way the water shaped what we see of the window.
Then I noticed the surface of the water was bouncing to the beat of bass drums outside. There were young men with bass drums, accompanying some athletic young women dancers who swung their beaded hair in wide emphatic swoops.....
If you turn up your sound, you can hear the drums.
Bass drums are really loud. We could hear them for some time after they were no longer visible.
Band.
Horse cops.
Heading back out after lunch, eager to see more good things at PAFA. PAFA's Industrial Gothick building.
I returned to PAFA's newer building.
Hey, I know this artist! She used to live in Ann Arbor, and still shows in the Summer Art Fair. Her work is all fabric and stitching. Yay, to see Chris Roberts-Antieau in a museum! Ten Table Manners, 2003.
Closer crop.
This section of PAFA hallway had a lot of work by women. Some of the work right here was very pointed, and very political.
Closer crop.
Hmmm.
Then I saw what's in the image below................
Wait a minute. **WHAT**?????????
WHAT? They kept the dirtbag's work hung in a huge show? WHAT???? When they could have changed the sort of statistics in that Guerilla Girls poster above, by giving a woman a show in that nice big space?
No. NO NO NO.
They should have taken the dirtbag's work down. They should have sent it back to him. Maybe show one image. MAYBE show one (1) image, perhaps one of his smug self-portraits?, along with the above, which should have held center stage right under his name writ large. (I literally walked by that information more than once, never noticing it........ That's how prominent it was. Not.)
They SHOULD NOT have proceeded with the show!
Especially as the show had many pics of naked people. I **SURELY** hope the museum had the courtesy to check with every one of those models, to make sure it was ok with them for those images to be shown!!!!!!!!!!!!! What if some of them were people he had taken advantage of to get those images!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?! Appalling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hillary, who is dressed, is in this exhibit. Does she want her name and face associated with ONE MORE DIRTBAG? I doubt it..........................................
This just made me sick. People taking advantage of others, day in, day out. No matter where, no matter what circumstances.
This would be why I show you no images of his work. I do not think dirtbags should get air time. The fact that they are famous (he's in that "art stars" image above....) DOES NOT excuse dirtbaggish behavior!!!!! We need to call them out as dirtbags, and walk away. No more fame, no more adulation. No more air time. NO MORE MONEY....
Chuck Close, shame on you. I hope you read these words, and I hope you know that I will not only never be able to appreciate any aspect of your work ever again, but I will share my feelings with everyone. Shame on you!!!
I made a really perfunctory trip through the rest of the museum, and left.
All of my pleasure in the morning was soured. Curdled. Sheesh.
Gack, gack, gack.
Shame on you, PAFA. This was NOT well done. I don't know that I'll ever darken your door again, no matter how close you are to my hotel. Shame on you. I REALLY hope you checked with those models. And if you didn't, I've got nothing good to say about you, either.
ps -- that "adjacent gallery" is a HALLWAY. NOT a gallery.............................
Drawing a cleansing breath.
Still nice out.
Sky still blue. Clouds still interesting.
Looking at the decoration on what is now the front of our hotel.
Shadow of city hall on the hotel.
We didn't have any trouble finding vegetarian meals, but we did have trouble finding places where we'd be happy to go back. Alas. Nothing that was terrible, but not much that was really good.
