"Our world becomes a better place because you put your compassion into action.  Thank you for helping The Carter Center wage peace, fight disease, and build hope.  Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter"

Right back at you, Jimmy! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ 🌟 πŸ’• 🌟 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ What does it say about us as a country that we can only seem to put a truly good person in the Oval Office once a generation? 😳

I posted the above on my Instagram account, resulting in the following scraps of conversation.
  • DF:  What a lovely note. And you’re right about the scarceness of truly good people — anywhere, really.
  • JR:  Wow!
  • VG:  Jimmy Carter is such a truly honorable human being. I have such deep respect for him. And I also wonder what it says about us as a nation that so many in our country seem to have little respect and often times contempt for the truly good, such as in the case of President Carter. He was never given the respect or admiration that he deserved. It was as if his goodness was a character flaw... something that others viewed as weakness instead of strength. I just don't get it.
  • ineedorange:  I hear you, VG.  If we as a country insist on admiring the crooks who are the best at ripping the rest of us off (while trashing the planet), we (and the rest of our sister/fellow travelers) are doomed............
  • ineedorange:  Excellent point, DF -- goodness very rare everywhere. Alas. Now if only we could somehow manage to admire it (and use it as a criterion for those who hold our most important jobs!)!!!!! Rather than giving those crucial jobs to rapists and pillagers.........
  • ineedorange:  I didn't do anything more special than make a modest contribution, JR. This can't actually be handwritten. They just radiate goodness, don't they. So grateful to them for all they have done (and all they continue to do) for humanity.
  • VG:  Amen

Later.  Setting out to walk.  Happy tomato plants!  And a yard sign for the individual who has won a hard-fought campaign to be our Democratic candidate for State Senate.

My favorite president. He cared about energy, the environment and most of all, people. This is a treasure.
