walking home, Jan. 21

.

It is now light enough, shortly after 5:00 pm, that my walk home is in (waning) daylight. This is good when there is icy pavement to avoid.....

No matter how much time I spend looking at the sky, I still see things that are new to me. This combination of a dark line of cloud, the diagonal breaks, and then the more ordinary puffs.....

Crows. Hundreds and hundreds of crows. This isn't the beginning, nor is it the end, of the crows flying past this spot while I watched. They were not wheeling in a circle. They were going south, pretty much in a straight line.

Looking into West Park from the west, as we have often done before.

This is a very small image -- it is the thumbnail which accompanies a video. I forgot to turn the camera to "regular picture" from video. There were only a couple of seconds of video, but this thumbnail captures -- the crows, again. All those tiny dots in the pink sky are more crows, headed south along the same line traced by their sisters and brothers.

Almost home now. I like the way this house looks, with its snowy bushes, backed by the bare trees and the sunset.

We have a huge flock of crows that flys over about every day at 5pm. I'm always amazed at how many there are!

Indeed. Hundreds and hundreds.

Before I started carrying a camera all the time, there was a day when I drove by the high school and saw thousands of crows, all standing on late fall's dry brown grass, all looking in one direction.........

It was so unusual -- I really wished I had a camera with me............
