The University's natural science museum is very close to Health Service. I hadn't been there in a while, so I decided to wander on over.
Impatiens.

This is another older building. You walk up from the entry level, on a grand marble staircase. There is a circular balcony overlooking the entry level, and this is the ceiling above............
Isn't this cool?

The second floor is all prehistoric. That covers a lot.............
These pics are "chronological" in the sense that they will appear here in the order in which they were taken (rather than in the order the things depicted inhabited our planet).
The building is an example of amazing artistry and craftsmanship.
It's contents ... likewise.
This set of dioramas shows the development of horses, from medium-dog-sized critters on up.
Apologizing for the less-than-sharp images, I invite you to enjoy the amazing sculpture and painting displayed. The smallest horses are a few inches, the largest creature is less than a foot long.

Look at the plants. Look at the background, painted to continue the illustration of time gone by, far into the distance.
Yowza, eh? I am in awe of the skill, dedication, and time that went into this......

In another dimension of bouncing back and forth from newer to older, we'll be seeing displays that were here when I was a kid, and displays that are much newer.
The proto-horses; old. This set of information on pterosaurs; new.
This skull was about 2' long.

Did you notice the "look up!" on the poster in the prev?
If you do, you'll see this..............

The prev showed the head (and teeth!) more clearly, but this one has a full wing.
I'm not sorry our skies don't include these.

This goes into the "I didn't know that" category (such finds always part of a successful museum visit!).
I hadn't realized that there were so many different sorts of pterosaurs. (as always, click on a pic to embiggen)

Love this artist's conception.

Skeleton which inspired the prev. Just a tiny little guy.

This one was about 2' long. Its head reminds me a lot of the big one suspended above.....

Something else that wasn't here when I was a kid. This showed up shortly after Jurassic Park.
I'm glad we don't share the Earth with these............
It's legs are about exactly as long as mine, and I shudder to think how much faster it could run!

Lots of models of things out to be touched in the newer parts of the museum.
Claws as long as my finger. !!!
