Yesterday it was 48F in the house when we had breakfast. It had been in the 30s outside overnight. They threatened frost, and the ficus spent the night in the garage, just in case, but in town there was no frost.
Yesterday was sunny, and calm, and the temps were in the 60s.
Yesterday I looked at the forecast for today, and tomorrow, and on into next week, and realized that we'd better get the storm windows up. Yesterday. As today and tomorrow are supposed to be too wet, and we won't be having highs higher than 60s or lows higher than 40s for the foreseeable (or at least that is their story now).
I came home and washed windows. Those of you who know me are astounded, I know, and I'm sure I would not be washing windows were it not for the photography....... I washed all the storms, and then my better half came home.
I washed the outsides of the permanently-placed windows, and he did the bulk of the work to get the storms installed.
For not really taking all that long, it is a lot of work. And it takes a LOT longer when you wash them. The washing takes far longer than the installation.
We are beginning to consider the possibility of seriously thinking about replacing the windows...... The downstairs ones are really not an issue, but the upstairs ones....... Hauling those heavy windows up the ladder (and down again, come spring) is getting ... old. As are we.
Today...................... (can you see the leaves are wet? it was raining when I took this........)

I love having the storm windows on. The house is so much quieter, and feels so much more snug. And did I say it is quieter? I miss the nature noise -- the rain, the wind, the birds, but I hate the people noise, and am always glad to exclude it as much as possible.
I'm very glad we got the storms on. We had the heat on last night, and again this morning. The house is really much more comfortable at 65 than at 48!
